I live with mental illness.  It makes my experience of the world magical, beautiful, terrifying, and intense.  Expressing myself is difficult, that is why I do art.  Working on a project helps keep me 'well', I am not myself otherwise.  It feels more like a compulsion than a choice.​

 

Linocut is a printmaking technique where linoleum is used as a relief surface, similar to woodcarving.  The collection here are some of the prints I have created during 2022.They are linocut prints on paper.  I designed, carved, and printed these pieces by hand.  In the future I would like to involve a press in my work for more consistency.​

 

My favourite part of the process is carving the linoleum; I feel myself go into a trance-like state for hours on end.  I want to get the details just right.  I want the vision in my mind to translate onto the paper.  During the printing process is when you find out if all the hard work has paid off.  The thrill of the reveal is always exciting.
